A Chinese language vacationer has been apprehended for illegally filming Jeju Worldwide Airport on the southern Jeju Island, categorised as a top-level nationwide safety facility, with a drone, police stated Friday.

The Jeju Provincial Police Company stated it was investigating the Chinese language nationwide, whose identification was withheld, on prices of violating the Aviation Security Act. The suspect is accused of flying an unauthorized drone about 2 kilometers from the Jeju airport’s runway on the afternoon of Dec. 31, 2024, and filming the airport.

The police, along with the Nationwide Intelligence Service and the airport authorities, are reportedly questioning the Chinese language nationwide about suspicions associated to terrorism or espionage.

Drone flight is banned inside a 9.3-kilometer radius of Jeju Worldwide Airport for nationwide safety functions. In a separate incident final 12 months, an object suspected to be a drone was noticed over the Jeju airport, resulting in the suspension of flights and inflicting inconvenience to airport customers.
